I’m hosting a forum discussion with actor John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox on Scrubs) tomorrow for Spread the Word to End the Word, an event created by Special Olympics. The event is meant to raise awareness for how hurtful the r-word (retard/ed) is to the disability community, and open people’s eyes to the prejudices and difficulties that society creates daily for individuals with disabilities and their families.
John’s son has Down Syndrome and my sister has CP, but we don’t want the only ones who promote respect to be family members. So if you have any interest in this at all, you’re more than welcome to stop by, and John is more than happy to take pictures with everyone at the end.
